Research

UCSD ranks #1 in the nation in NIH funding per faculty member, and is home to 66 members of the prestigious National Academies of Science.  The greater San Diego biomedical research community includes the famed Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Scripps Research Institute, Burnham Institute for Medical Research, La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and over 500 biotechnology companies involved in research and development.  Our program allows fellows frequent direct interaction with leading academic pediatricians and scientists for perspective, inspiration and guidance toward successfully launching their academic careers.

Our fellows have a minimum of 12 months protected research time (no call during research blocks).  Most of our fellows pursue clinical research, both prospective and retrospective studies.
