Fellow Schedule

All three years of fellowship are similar in terms of clinical versus research time.  Research time is protected with no 24 hour call.  On average a fellow spends 2 weeks on service (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) time) and 2-3 weeks off service (on research or elective).

Time in the cardiac ICU (CTICU) has 24-hour call shifts 2x/week. The pediatric ICU has transitioned to a day and night float system.

Over the course of 36 months of fellowship:

  • PICU & CTICU – 17 months
  • Vacation – 3 months
  • Research/ Elective – 16 months
